Day 2 - Madrid sightseeing & at leisure A morning panoramic sightseeing tour with a local guide encompasses all you need to know about the Spanish capital. Later, you may wish to go to Toledo or maybe take a little siesta! This evening, why not try out some of the late night bars around the Plaza Mayor? (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 3 - Madrid – Barcelona (2 nights) As we drive along the Jalon gorges we see the old Arab irrigation systems still in use today on our approach to Barcelona. Don't miss out on a fiery Flamenco show tonight. We'll have late-night transportation to get you back to your hotel. (Buffet Breakfast)

Day 4 - Barcelona sightseeing & at leisure From Gaudi's incredible 'Sagrada Familia' to the Paseo de Gracia with its chic boutiques this is a city of surprises. We'll explore its many facets with our local guide. Enjoy Catalan specialties in a local restaurant tonight and then the city is yours. (Buffet Breakfast, Highlight Dinner)
Day 5 - Barcelona - Cannes - Nice (2 nights) Into France, and through the Camargue with its white horses and black bulls. Then along the coast to Cannes' Croisette with its Film Festival Centre and 'palace-hotels' before dinner tonight in a Nicois restaurant. (Buffet Breakfast, Highlight Dinner)

Day 6 - Nice at leisure This is where the French come to jog along the Promenade, sizzle in the sun or just show off their latest boutique purchases. Enjoy an included excursion to Monaco and Monte Carlo. (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 7 - Nice - Pisa - Florence (2 nights) Mid-morning departure takes us into Italy, where we continue along the coast past Genoa and the quarries of Carrara to Pisa famous for its Leaning Tower. We'll have time to visit the Square of Miracles before continuing to Florence. This evening, we'll enjoy a meal with wine in one of the city's most popular pizzerias! Day 8 - Florence sightseeing & at leisure Trafalgar's local expert will bring the city to life on an included walking tour. Day 9 - Florence - Orvieto - Rome (2 nights) This morning we stop in the medieval walled town of Orvieto, famous for its glorious wines, its richly decorated Cathedral and its pretty pottery shops. Later we arrive in Rome where this evening you may like to do 'as the Romans do' and linger in the fountain-filled squares and pavement cafés! (Buffet Breakfast)

Day 10 - Rome sightseeing & at leisure Our local guide takes us on a tour seeing the Forum, the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Then you may wish to explore further or maybe chill out in the Piazza Navona. (Buffet Breakfast )

We reach the ‘Grand Corniche’ - the highway which follows the ancient Aurelian Way. There, the Emperor Augustus erected a Roman ‘Trophy’ - a dazzling white sacrificial temple to mark the border between Rome and Gaul (modern-day France). ESP6a - MADRID. El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen This guided tour takes us first to the royal city of El Escorial. This great monastery-palace was built in the foothills of the Guadarrama mountains by Philip II, in thanksgiving for his victory over the French at the battle of St. Quentin in 1557. After a break for lunch, we continue to visit the memorial built by Franco to those who fell in the Civil War. High in the mountains, with splendid views, this amazing memorial was cut into the rock face to create the largest basilica ever built. It is surmounted by a cross some 410 feet high. 43 (€)
